Crinolines to Miniskirts: History and Fashion by The Young Designers
Young Designers Sewing Program began in 2012 as an after-school sewing club at Gaines Elementary School. It has evolved into a mentoring program for young women in grades 4-12. Students develop such skills as patience, persistence, and attention to detail while learning to sew. They also explore career and higher education opportunities, learn skills for future employment, and receive travel and cultural opportunities they might not otherwise have.
Crinolines to Miniskirts shows the Young Designers' creative interpretation of garments throughout US history. After designing their clothing, they put needle to fabric and constructed it and then made jewelry and undergarments. They will model these outfits in the fashion show.
