About the play:
Ghosts was Henrik Ibsens response to the widespread criticism of Nora in "A Dolls House," who walks out the door, leaving her husband and children behind. "Ghosts" created even greater controversy, tackling taboo topics and questioning society's rules and conventions. It was a scathing commentary on societys false morality and hypocrisy. In Ghosts, we see what happens to Mrs. Alving, who stayed in her marriage and paid a severe price. As in most Ibsen plays, the action has happened before the play even begins. The characters enter the play with their secrets, and revelations follow.
