EAST END COLLECTED5 & EEC Jr.

Curated by Paton Miller

ON VIEW April 20 through June 9, 2019

East End Collected5 continues to reflect Paton Millers vision of this area as an ideal environment for artists to create work. Through this exhibition, Miller celebrates these 32 new artists and marks Southampton Arts Center as a home where the East End arts scene can continue to thrive. A special new addition to this fifth year of EEC is East End Collected Junior with a select group of teen artists.

A Note from Paton Miller:

Six years ago I was invited to a meeting by then Mayor Mark Epley and other concerned residents of Southampton Village to contribute my ideas on how to go forward with the newly conceived Southampton Arts Center. The main point I offered at the meeting was that a new arts center had to be loved by the community to be enthusiastically supported and have a chance to grow. In order to be embraced by the community I suggested that SAC should serve as a mirror and reflect the artistic community it resides in. This was the kernel of the idea that gave birth to the East End Collected Series.

Including this years East End Collected5, over 150 artists have participated in the EEC series. Artists whose careers range from working in their basements to those who have had long international careers. The connective tissue of these disparate careers is the quality of the work. The past exhibitions have all been strongly supported and much appreciated by the community and has helped put SAC on the map. None of this would be possible without the unwavering support of Amy Kirwin, Tom Dunn, Simone Levinson, J. Whitney Stevens and the rest of the SAC board. I warmly thank them for the 5 years theyve given me to investigate in-depth our shared artistic community. It has been an amazing voyage of discovery for myself and all who have participated.

This year we have included a number of promising younger artists who are at the very beginning of their careers. The Eastern end of Long Island, North and South forks, have for many years been fertile ground for some of the most diverse and exceptional artistic talent to be found anywhere. We salute these younger artists who will continue this tradition.
