Grimm by Nazmo Dance Collective
Grimm is an engaging performance and panel discussion that combines movement
and storytelling to address social issues through three fairy tales. The work explores
well- and lesser-known themes in The Frog Prince, Cinderella, and the Caribbean
legend The Soucouyant to present important themes that relate to topics of social
concern, including gender and racial issues and immigrant relations. Grimm aims to spark conversation about cultural values and act as an artistic vehicle to respond to
our county's widening, divisive atmosphere. All performances include "Act 2," in
which audience members will talk with a panel of scholars and community
members, the dancers, and each other about the important issues raised in the
performance. Though fairy tales are often associated with children, the stories
contain profound, relevant content worth exploring with mature audiences to create
new approaches to social concerns.
