This is for all the marbles! After a full season of poetry slam, we will conclude our quest to form the 2019 Vic Slam Team, who will go on to represent our community as they compete at this year's Canadian Festival of Spoken Word in Guelph! Everyone is welcome, though we advise attendees should be able to handle mature content and don't recommend bringing children.

COMPETING FINALISTS TBA
Performances from finalists will be filmed to be uploaded on VPP's social media channels as well as be available for performers' own use. We will have a photographer to take performance photos and will only take photos of attendees with consent.
ABOUT THE SHOW: Slam is a competitive form of spoken word poetry. All 8 of our finalists will be competing in 3 rounds of 3-minute poetry and will be scored on a scale of 0.0 to 10.0 by 5 judges, who must be impartial and will be selected from the audience between doors opening and the show's start. Poetry is often a vehicle for dealing with trauma and we cannot predict what you will hear, so please do what you need to take care of yourself before and after the event. As such, audience members should be able to handle mature content and we recommend that children not attend.
SAFER SPACES: We strive to make all of our spaces safe for people of all backgrounds and identities. Homophobia, misogyny, racism, transphobia, and any and all other kinds of discrimination will not be tolerated on stage or amongst our audience, and will be dealt with according to our Anti-Harassment Policy. If you'd like to know more, please reach out to to our Anti-Harassment Team (AHT) via email at vppgrievance@gmail.com. Our AHT (one of whom is an indigenous woman and one of whom identifies as a queer woman) will also be on-site and identified at the beginning of the show to talk to if anyone is experiencing harassment. If you don't feel comfortable speaking to someone directly, please email our team - all emails are confidential.
The Victoria Poetry Project respectfully recognizes that our 2019 Vic Slam Finals will be taking place on the traditional and unceded territory of the Lekwungen people, now known as the Esquimalt and Songhees First Nations. We recognize the colonial violence that led to the creation of Victoria, and how that allows our organization to exist. We aim to always be cognizant of who is represented on our stages, and to do what we can to reach out to groups who aren't. We also invite all members of our community to take time to think about how this intersects with their identities.
ABOUT THE VENUE: The Vic Theatre is a ground-level establishment that is wheel-chair accessible. There are stalled bathrooms, which we will make gender-neutral for the evening. The venue will be running a bar for the evening with alcoholic beverages, non-alcohloic beverages, and snacks available for purchase; please note that alcoholic beverages must be consumed in the lobby, as the liquor license does not extend to the theatre seating. If you have any questions about the accessibility of the venue, please reach out to our executive director via email at vppdirector@gmail.com.
