Time2Shine - Elaine Joe's 1st Solo Piano Performance!
You're invited to Elaine Joe's 1st Solo Piano Performance!

After 30+ years of working her craft, Elaine has decided it's time to show up and Shine!  Many of her dear friends and associates have asked if she performs anywhere.  She always answers regrettably with a "no", followed by "I play with choirs as the accompanist, or sometimes in a band, but Never solo."

As one who doesn't enjoy the limelight, Elaine is going to see what happens - will she melt under the bright lights?  Will she fumble, or, will she simply shine?!  Hopefully, the latter.

Come join her, and see what happens.

The theme revolves around:  Beauty, Unspeakable Emotion, Heartache & Love.  And of course, some Fun for good measure.

Her perspective is romantic, emotional, and her aim is to make you feel something akin to pleasure, and perhaps a bit of sadness.  As her biz card says, "Music is the doorway to your soul...open it"  Hopefully, you'll allow her to do this for you.

She'll be playing an assortment of pieces:  From classical to Broadway, oldies to new age, and of course, ballads.

So let her play for your heart, mind & soul...directly from hers.

Bio:

Elaine's career began at the tender age of 4 1/2 when her Mom asked her if she wanted to take piano lessons.  She answered with a resounding "yes" when she saw the great candy her sister was getting from the neighbourhood teacher, Mrs. Short.

By grade 5, her Mom decided to change teachers for Elaine, her two brothers and sister.  So, for the remainder of her classical studies, she learned music from Edward Parker, the uncle and 1st teacher of Jon Kimura Parker.

In Grade 6 she won the silver medal for the second highest marks in Canada, with the Royal Conservatory of Music. In the same year at Courtenay Youth Music Camp she played and performed with her first string quartet.

By grade 8, she was playing competitively in 3 - 4 festivals a year and winning numerous awards.

She reached grade 10 with the Conservatory and although she appreciated the training, she swore she would never teach that method to anyone!  She likened the theory to taking advanced calculus while in high school - not her favourite subject.

Through high school she accompanied the Gilbert & Sullivan players, and was the accompanist for the school musicals in grades 11 and 12.

At the age of 15, she decided to leave the classical piano world, and took two years of popular piano.

In 1998 she moved to Bermuda and studied jazz with Vic Glazer (composer and arranger to Frankie Avalon and Debbie Reynolds).  While there she accompanied the Bermuda Music and Drama Society in their production of the "Hot Mikado".

In 2001 she returned to Vancouver and learned blues piano from Darryl Havers (Brickhouse keyboardist).

In 2003 she went on a whirlwind romance through Italy and France.

In 2004 she spent 4 months in Australia and recorded her 1st CD at the beachside town of Kiama.  The CD was called "Relax with Elaine & Franck".  It was a compilation of piano and classical guitar music.  Franck completed his compositions when they returned to Vancouver later that year.

Since 2005 she has worked full time as a professional accompanist, teacher and composer.  She is looking forward to finally performing her first piano solo.
