Create fabulous holiday gifts with your own two hands! (Or keep them for yourself.)
This series of Mosaic Playshop "Lab" sessions is designed to give you maximum flexibility. Drop in and make one small thing, or come often and make many gorgeous gifts you'll love to give: stepping stones and garden ornaments, a snazzy picture frame for the mantle, or table art like trivets and coasters. Oh boy, will your loved ones be impressed, and YOU will benefit from several hours of therapeutic creative play!
Cost: A flat rate of $95 for the first 4 hours, then $15 per hour after that. All materials are included in the fee! Register with a friend or family member and you each get $5 off the initial flat-rate fee.
You do not need any previous experience or art skills to do mosaic. If you know how to spread cream cheese on a bagel you'll be in good shape. Spatial skills are helpful but not required, and if you like jigsaw puzzles, you'll have a leg up. :)
A BASIC PROJECT of, say, one stepping stone or two trivet-sized pieces looks like this:
Day 1 - Stick little bits of beautiful tile, glass, mirror and other do-dads onto a base. (2-4 hrs)
Day 2 - Grout your artwork to complete and protect it. (1.5-3 hrs) Then take it home!
FAQs
HOW DO I REGISTER? Select the first day you're able to attend from the drop-down menu. Pay the flat rate to sign up. You can always come to more sessions after that and pay as you go if it adds up to more than 4 hours total.
WHAT IF I'M ONLY ABLE TO COME FOR ONE SESSION? No worries! I can show you an alternate method that can be completed in one day, OR I can finish your traditionally-made project for you for an additional fee. It will be ready to pick up in time for holiday giving. Register for any class session and we'll take it from there.
DO I HAVE TO STAY THE FULL FOUR HOURS? No. But you should allow yourself at least 2 hours to stick pieces on, and another 2 hours the next time for grouting. (Or see above.)
CAN I MAKE, LIKE, TEN THINGS?? Well, maybe! It depends on how quickly you work, and how many days you come. If you put in the time, then there's no limit to how many items you can make!
ARE THESE CLASSES ONLY FOR ADULTS, OR FOR KIDS, OR WHAT? They are appropriate for adults and for kids ages 11 and up. Younger kids should bring a grown-up along and pay the discounted fee for two people.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR? I dress for a mess whenever I'm in the studio. Grouting is especially messy and dusty. I have paint shirts and aprons to loan if needed. Also, my studio/garage opens to the outside, so dress appropriately for the weather.
Note: Mosaic can be addictive. Consider yourself warned!
