Comedy Sketch Writing
April 2-May 7, 7:00-9:30pm
Limited to 6 students
The popularity of online video has democratized the comedy landscape. Once the exclusive purview of network programs like Saturday Night Live and Kids in the Hall, sketch comedy is now within reach to anyone with a DSLR and a good idea. But how do you get from an idea to a finished, produce-able script?
For the first time at Northwest Film Forum, Instructor David Quantic will bring his years of experience writing and producing sketch comedy to an intensive, six week writing class. In each weeks class, David will assign a new genre of sketch comedy (political satire, game shows, talk shows, etc.) and students will be required to write a completed sketch to be read out loud by students in class the following week. Feedback from fellow students will be facilitated by David. Instruction will also be given regarding proper script formatting.
In addition to his years of narrative filmmaking and film instruction, Davids comedy films have screened at festivals worldwide and featured established comedians including Missi Pyle (Galaxy Quest, Inside Amy Schumer), Artemis Pebdani (Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia), Drew Droege (Drunk History) and Brian Gattas (Bobs Burgers.)
