Intro to Local Medicinal Plants
Join Natalie Hammerquist for a 2-hour walk and class at Discovery Park. We will learn to identify some of the most common medicinal forest and field plants. We will see hawthorn leaves in bud, our native oak tree, big leaf maple flowers, red elder, cleavers, nettle and more. We'll also encounter and learn to ID poison hemlock, which is one of the most poisonous plants in out state.

Though we will not be harvesting or removing anything during this class (that's against the rules in Seattle Parks), we will cover what parts of the plant you would harvest and how to tell it's the right time. We'll also cover their medicinal uses and probably edible uses as well.

Natalie was born and raised in the Seattle area and grew up hiking in the Cascades surrounded by these plants. Now she is a clinical herbalist and educator that teaches a variety of topics, including medicine making, holistic herbalism and plant identification.

The class will go on no matter what the weather, so bring boots, a rain jacket and an umbrella just in case. We'll meet in the South Parking Lot of Discovery Park. Click link below for pin. Please be on time so you don't get left behind!
