Advanced/Professional Modern Dance with Andrea Cerniglia
Mondays, Mar 18 - May 6 (no class 4/15). 10-11:30 am
Andrea's class is a hybrid of Bartenieff Fundamentals and Cunningham inspired material. Class sessions build from the ground up to activate and reinvigorate the Fundamental Patterns of Total Body Connectivity (breath, core-distal, head-tail, upper-lower, body-half, & cross-lateral). After developing a relationship with these patterns, focus is placed on technical, improvisational, and performative elements providing a diverse experience while still placing an emphasis on activating each part of the body and the necessary movement elements that prepare us for vigorous movement. Once the class has built a critical mass of momentum, we move into athletic, detail-oriented phrase work designed to challenge the mover to occupy space, while exploring elements of time, weight, flow, and shape. We will experience a series of phrases that requires athletic prowess, endurance, and allows for creative experimentation in attack, phrasing and transition. Often phrase work will return from week to week to build a consistent flow of sequences that we may draw from in our practice.
