Yiddish Third Seder
ENTIRELY SOLD OUT. IF YOU ABSOLUTELY MUST GET IN THIS YEAR, PLEASE CONTACT THE Congress for Jewish Culture AT THE NUMBER LISTED ON THIS PAGE.
It's traditional to enjoy yourself during the intermediary days of Passover. To that end, the Congress for Jewish Culture will again be conducting a good old-fashioned and fun Yiddish 3rd seder for your enjoyment this year khol-hamoyed Peysekh on Tuesday, April 23rd, 2019 at 6 PM in the historic Montauk Club.
Those of you who know what we're talking about need no further explanation, and those who don't, you're in for a big treat!
We will read (and sing!) through a Yiddish hagode. We've done this for the past three years and have improved the Yiddish hagode based on enthusiastic input from last year's khevre.
Please note: Yiddish is the language of this event! The hagode is in Yiddish and the program will be in Yiddish. Even if you don't "talk Jewish," don't worry - there will be sufficient English-language sign-posts to keep you looped in. Talk among yourselves in whatever language you like, but plan on hearing and humming in Yiddish!
The meal will be a family-style chicken and brisket dinner, vegetarian options, dessert and coffee. Dr. Jeanne Stellman will be bringing her homemade gefilte fish. Other cooks will be tossing in their traditional maykholim.
Please note, food will not be kosher but no khometzdike ingredients will be used. The wine will be kosher lePeysekh.
Costs and Contributions
Admission is $70 per person (our cost per person, not including uncompensated time and effort and volunteer food contributions). So if you are at all able, add something on top of the base ticket price. The Congress for Jewish Culture can certainly use it to keep this event and all our work in the field of Yiddish going. We won't tell you how to give, but here are some ideas:
$360 Gantser Borekh-haShem
$180 Knaker (help bring a student!)
$100 Shtitser (help keep this thing going!)
$70 cover costs
Remember that your donation (ticket above $70) to the Congress for Jewish Culture, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, is tax deductible to the full extent permitted by law.
Space is limited, so please respond ASAP.
We must close reservations on Wednesday 17 April 2019 -- and we anticipate that we'll be bursting at the seams, so order early!
Directions: The Montauk Club is at Grand Army Plaza on the 2 and 3 trains and at Seventh Avenue on the B and Q trains. Those of you with cars will figure it out yourselves (maybe with help from Waze and Google).
