DCA presents "Sing Joyfully"
The Diablo Choral Artists, now in their 26th year, will present Sing Joyfully, a concert featuring five centuries of British sacred music, at St. Stephen Catholic Church, Walnut Creek, on March 15th at 8:00 P.M., and at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Pleasant Hill, on March 17th at 3:00 PM.

This exploration of some of the most glorious music ever to emerge from the western choral tradition will include Renaissance composers Thomas Tallis and William Byrd, and continue through time with Edward Elgar and Ralph Vaughan Williams, right up through William Mathias and John Rutter.

Featured in this concert will be John R. S. Walko, organist and accompanist. Mr. Walko has performed solo organ recitals throughout Europe and been a tour leader for many European organ study tours.  You may have seen and heard him at the California Palace of the Legion of Honor, where he is the Staff Organist. Mr. Walko. in addition to Diablo Choral Artists, accompanies the San Francisco City Chorus and Bella Musica, Berkeley.  He is guest artist for other groups such as the San Francisco Bach Choir and San Francisco Choral Society.

Diablo Choral Artists is a community chorus of approximately thirty five auditioned singers with a mission of presenting significant works of sacred and secular choral music; inspiring and uplifting audiences through live performances of artistic excellence; and nurturing the appreciation and enjoyment of choral music in people of all ages and cultures. Established in 1993 (as Voices of Musica Sacra), and now under the direction of Mark Tuning, who has extensive experience as a vocal and orchestral director in both California and Oregon, Diablo Choral Artists is becoming known for presenting innovative programs of significant choral works in Contra Costa County.

The chorus brings together a wide variety of people, all of whom love choral music.  In addition to a few semi-professional musicians, members represent a wide range of professions, including an archaeologist, IT professionals, an administrator for health care patent contracts and an administrator for a pet rescue group, a physician and other health professionals, finance and banking professionals, lawyers, students and members who made their careers combining volunteer work with family responsibilities.

Diablo Choral Artists has taken concert tours to Europe, recorded Christ-mas repertoire, and been the guest of the Diablo Symphony Orchestra, the Contra Costa Performing Arts Society and the California Symphony. Most recently, in 2017 DCA joined the Diablo Symphony Orchestra and three other choirs in performing a holiday concert under the direction of well-known conductor David Drummond of London.

Tickets for the March concerts are available through Brown Paper Tickets at 800-838-3006, on-line at brownpapertickets.com, or at the door.  Adult admission is $25, Seniors 60+ $15, Students $5, and children 5-12 are free.
