Culture Bearer Workshop Featuring: Dr. Marisol Berríos-Miranda and Juliana Cantarelli Vita
Dr. Marisol is currently a professor at the University of Washington and has a PhD in ethnomusicology, but her first education came from a childhood in her native Puerto Rico, where she was soaked in music. "I studied music academically, but the way I learned music - who sings well, what had a good rhythm - was sitting down and listening with my dad." She also credits her mother, Juanita Miranda-Berrios. "She is the encyclopedia. She knows everything about Latin rhythm and dance." She will be sharing her musical knowledge and providing a window into the music of Puerto Rico.
Juliana Cantarelli Vita is a grad student from the University of Washington and grew up in Brazil. Juliana is back by popular demand after presenting during NWKE's chapter sharing in 2017. She will present and immerse workshop attendees in the traditional music of Brazil.
*We will be holding our Annual Spring Membership Meeting from 12:00-1:00 during lunch. Lunch will be provided (included) for NWKE Members. Non-members & students that would like to attend the meeting can purchase a lunch for $15 when registering.
