2013 FREE Life of the Merchant Mariner Tour on the Schooner Adirondack - Round Trip
This 60-minute round-trip tour leaves from Slip D64 at Liberty State Park.
What does it mean to work on the waterways? Join Rev. David Rider from the Seamen's Church Institute aboard the Schooner Adirondack to explore the history and current issues facing the merchant mariner. Increased commerce and containerization on the New York/New Jersey port greatly influenced the lives of seafarers. Through the eyes of the merchant mariner, Rev. Rider will discuss piracy threats, ship types, and the changing identities of seafarers.
The Seamen's Church Institute (SCI) is North America's largest and most comprehensive mariners' service agency, promoting safety, dignity, and improved working and living conditions for millions of men and women serving in the maritime workplace. Founded in 1834, the Institute is a voluntary, ecumenical agency affiliated with the Episcopal Church
Plan to arrive at Liberty State Park at least 45 minutes before your tour. You will pick up tickets at the ticketing table, located by Liberty Landing Marina. Present your ID or a print out of your reservation confirmation to receive your tickets.
Please arrive at the ticketing table at least 30 minutes before the tour to pick up your tickets.
Tickets not claimed 15 minutes before the tour may be given to those in the standby line.
