24 food and fiber farms will be receiving guests September 14-15: (6 on Saturday and 24 on Sunday) all will have educational exhibits, many will have tasting opportunities, and some will even have music! This Annual Farm Tour is a benefit for the Field Intern Program of the WSU Jefferson County Agricultural extension. While visitors can make reservations at any of the many hotels, lodges, B&B's, or state parks, we have also made a field camping option available at the Chimacum elementary school just 1/4 mile from Farm Tour Central, the Chimacum Corner Farmstore. There will be a Pig Roast that Saturday afternoon/evening, commandeered by Chef Dan Rattigan the master behind the culinary creations at the Port Ludlow Inn and Resort. Meet your farmers, they're better than rock stars! On the menu: 3 gorgeous heritage Berkshire pigs raised at Moonlight Farm slow roasted in the Kentucky style by Pit Master John Foss, served with a BBQ sauce made from local cider and berries by Chef Dan Ratigan of the Port Ludlow Resort. When the pigs come off, a medley of vegetables from the farms you'll visit will go on the grill, including rosemary skewers of yukon and red potatoes, chioga beets, carrots, parsnips, zucchini and sweet peppers. For dessert, a Montmorency Cherry Crisp with a scoop of our favorite local ice cream, Vanilla Bean from Elevated. There will be a beer/wine/cider garden featuring local favorites, with cheese skewers from Mt Townsend Creamery and peanuts from CB's for sale, and live Blue Grass music.
