Portland Ecosystem 2019
At Catalyst Kitchens, we believe that creating a nonprofit ecosystem is a more radical approach to running orgs, as it looks at the roots of problems. Instead of just trying to alleviate the symptoms of problems, orgs try to solve the underlying problems collaboratively. To create significant and long-lasting changes, orgs must understand and often alter the social system that creates and sustains the problems in the first place. In order to effectively do this, orgs must first identify all the different stakeholders (friends, foes, competitors, and bystanders) in the problem, as well as the larger environment (e.g. the laws, policies, social norms, demographic trends, and cultural institutions) in which all stakeholders exist.
Our ecosystem framework strives to incorporate the broader environment within which orgs operate. As we seek to make ecosystem change more systematic, orgs should create a network that identifies all of the players and environmental conditions along with the relationships between them. As we grow this ecosystem, we will begin with these steps: Identify the various parts of the Portland ecosystem, including the players and the environmental conditions that affect our collective ability to create change. Define the ecosystem's ultimate intended impact.
Please join us for this meeting on March 14th, 2019, as we begin to build a team that will lead these efforts in Portland moving forward. The meeting will take place from 2PM to 4PM, with light refreshments provided.
