Women and Power
Women and Power by Professor Mary Beard was published at a time when women were expressing collective outrage at all forms of violence and abuse. An army of women found voices online through the #MeToo movement. However, the classicist notes that women are allowed certain roles within western culture and one of these is victim.
On International Womens Day a diverse and inspiring panel of local women will participate in a discussion using this text as a lens to discuss how, as women, we can really be heard. Are we able to make progress within a victim narrative? Where is womens power situated? What does this mean for such a diverse, and socioeconomically problematic area like Thanet?
The discussion will take place in front of a small audience, hosted by Deb Cartwright, CEO of Oasis the Domestic Abuse charity and wellbeing practitioner of Soul-Full-Life.
