Westmont Performing Arts Presents Steel Magnolias

The 1980s introduced us to a multitude of female characters who were head and shoulder pads above the rest: The Golden Girls, Designing Women, and the most lovable ladies of the eighties - the Steel Magnolias who permeate Truvy's beauty shop. In this southern comfort zone, we meet Truvy, the salon's bodacious beautician; her assistant Annelle, a gal who puts the past in pastel; and their clients. This coterie consists of Clairee, a raconteur (and provocateur) with grandeur; bride-to-be Shelby, the epitome of bonhomie; her mother M'Lynn, the doyenne of decorum; and Ouiser, a woman whose personality is more blistering than the Great Atlanta Fire. With its confident confidantes, scintillating script, and empathetic aesthetic, Steel Magnolias is anything but cut-and-dried.
