RECSI February Dinner Program
This presentation will be an overview of how the use of non-potable water resources can be a means of developing more sustainable and resilient development projects. With a special focus on rainwater harvesting, the presentation will discuss the design and implementation of both passive and active systems. A number of regional case studies will be reviewed from residential, commercial to school projects.
Speaker: Kevin Falkerson- founder and principal of SYMBIOS ecotecture.
Kevin holds B.S. degrees in Environmental Science and Ecology, a Masters degree of Architecture, and is a certified Green Roof Professional (GRP) and licensed General Contractor.
In 1985, he founded Nu-Shelter Construction specializing in developing energy efficient solar homes in Massachusetts. In 1991 to founded a design-build company, SYMBIOS, in California thats an ecological-based, design-build company with an integrated approach modeled on natural systems, green construction principles and sustainable technologies. In 2004 SYMBIOS launched its Living Building Systems division which designs and installs vegetative building systems for roofs, walls, and on-site water re-use systems. In 2013, two living roof projects earned national recognition for Green Roofs for Health Cities Awards of Excellence and the GreenBuilder 2013 Green Home of the Year Award. In 2016, SYMBIOS earned international recognition with a Global Environment Award from the World Green Infrastructure Network for the AMYS Drive-Thru project in Rohnert Park, California.
