Each year, students in the School of Social Welfare organize this community-oriented event to encourage knowledge-sharing through workshops, activities, and a keynote speaker, all focused on social justice.
This year, our keynote speaker is George Galvis. Galvis is the co-founder and executive director of Communities United for Restorative Youth Justice (CURYJ, pronounced courage). Galvis advocates for at-risk youth, people in prison, and formerly incarcerated individuals with children. He has led statewide advocacy efforts to transform punitive school and juvenile justice policies that disparately impact youth of color and has developed traditional rites of passage programs as healthy alternatives to gang violence.
Our workshop presenters this year are API Legal Outreach, GRADD, Safe Return Project, Community Works West-Project WHAT!, Love Not Blood, Gender Health SF, The Dellums Institute for Social Justice, Our Space: Where It's Safe to Be Yourself, Anti-Eviction Mapping Project, and Public Bank East Bay and Community Democracy Project.
The layout for the day will be as follows:
9:00---Doors open/Registration 9:30-11:00---Workshops 11:15-12:00---Keynote Address 12:15-12:45---FREE LUNCH 1:00-2:30---Workshops
Our logo design this year is from talented local artist Shirley Chong. You can find her at her website, https://www.cheekychong.com/ or instagram: @cheeky.chong
