Inheritance- A Litany: Written and Performed by Janis Brenner

A journey into the myriad ways a daughter has "become" her late parents. She inherited "her father's nose, her mother's singing voice, her father's sarcasm, her mother's fragile bones"...but also a lifetime of their objects and even their thoughts, revealing a family's story.

A poetic narrative, a dance, a play, an opera, a comic drama by internationally acclaimed artist Janis Brenner, winner of 2017 United Solo Award for Best Choreography.

Created by acclaimed interdisciplinary artist Janis Brenner, Inheritance: A Litany is a personal narrative, dance-opera, non-linear play, and comic drama. The 45-minute interdisciplinary tour-de-force honors the parent-child relationship, its psychologies, and its historiescomedic, deeply intimate, and yet also universal. The text material is based on lists Ms. Brenner began making, noting rather profoundly how she had become themand how we inherit not only parts of our parents physical, psychological, behavioral, emotional traits, but also their objects, belongings, even thoughts and ways of being in the world.
Long-time Artistic Director of Janis Brenner & Dancers in NYC, Ms. Brenner is reintroduced in this solo project as the acclaimed dancer-choreographer-vocalist and comedic actress for which she has been widely known.

A Litany won "Best Production" at the United Solo Theatre Festival, as well as "Best Composer" and "Best Lighting Design."
