Great Women in History
one act play titled AQUITAINE which entails the astounding life of Eleanor of Aquitaine, born the Duchess of Aquitaine into a noble French family. Bequeathed a massive amount of land she battled her entire life to maintain ownership. Inheriting these lands from her father, The Duke of Aquitaine, who died when Eleanor was 15, making her by far the most eligible young woman in Europe and began a life for Eleanor as a bargaining chip in arranged marriages. She was queen consort to King Louis VII until the marriage was annulled giving her back The Aquitaine. She then became Queen Consort to Henry II of England and later his prisoner when accused of plotting to overthrow him with their son, Young Henry. An amazing life lived at a time when a woman of royal birth was valued for her dowry and her ability to provide sons. After the one-act play and short intermission, various strong and brave women will be recognized through monologues reflecting who they were and their contributions to society. Beginning with Eve, the presumed Mother of us All, and eleven others throughout our history. This event is January 13, 2019, Sunday, at 2 pm at the Anna Arts Center, 125 West Davie Street, Anna, IL 62906. Tickets are $5 and will be sold at the door.
