The FemFest began in 2018 in Arizona. Being successful and unifying, Sold Out Productions is bringing the fest to the Bay Area! The FemFest aims to encourage and support a community of women and other femme representations in the music, art, overall creative community of Berkeley and the greater Bay Area. Local and internationally traveling bands, artists, poets, speakers, and educators, and other creatives will come together for a collaborative experience at the famous DIY and activist venue, 924 Gilman Street. FemFest is on
Saturday, February 23rd, 2019.
The event kicks off with yoga and a letter writing workshop to queer and trans prisoners led by ABO Comix. A zine fest will occur from 12:00am until 3:00pm at Gilman, which will showcase zines made by femme/queer/trans educators and community members. Local acoustic bands, poets, and educational speakers will perform during the day as well.
The night will conclude with headliners including:
Bad Cop / Bad Cop (LA)
City Mouse (Lansing, MI)
Pity Party (Oakland)
Sol Drop (Flagstaff)
with more headliners TBA.
Roughly 10 other local musicians will be featured in the day, including:
Proceeds from the festival will go to the Oakland Queer and Trans Center. A second benefit is to be announced.
