Hannah Kahn Dance Company in "Seven Dances"
The Denver-based Hannah Kahn Dance Company returns to New York for the first time since 1988 with performances March 8 and 9, 2019, at the Mark Morris Dance Center.
There is no classifying her choreographic idiom, the Washington Post said of Kahn. Shes created a dance language of her own. The Chicago Tribune characterized the troupes appearance there as the most interesting modern dance to be performed on a Chicago stage in many months.
At each upcoming performance the company (which counts Mark Morris and Kate Johnson as alumni) will present seven works representing Kahns creative output over four decades. After graduating from the Juilliard School in 1972, Kahn presented her work in New York continuously until 1988 when she relocated to Denver. Since then, she has been a central figure in Colorados dance scene, receiving consistent support and public funding .
In 2009 Kahn was honored as a Living Legend of Dance by the Carson Brierly Dance Library, and in 2012 she was honored by the Colorado Ballet in their Tribute to Women in Dance in Colorado. In 2018 her choreography was chosen for the Presenting Denver Dance Festival.
