Toast the Tour! Send-off Party & Evening of Performance of BOYCOTT by Kathryn Blume
Save the Date!
Plan to join the Backbone Campaign on Saturday, August 16th for an entertaining and celebratory send-off party for the Procession for the Future's trip to the Conventions and Campuses across the country. Meet the Backbone Campaign Convention Team, including Snowflake, Juan, Al, a few new puppets, and Matt Walker and Logan Price who will continue the tour September - November.

You won't want to miss this incredible show by performer and playwright Kathryn Blume, as well as the celebratory pre-show party featuring music by Correo Aereo, delicious hors d'oeuvres, giant puppets, drinks, and more.

The party will start outside the Blue Heron at 7 pm, with music by vibrant world music duo Correo Aereo performing traditional music of Venezuela, Mexico and Argentina. Highly skilled musicians Abel Rocha and Madeleine Sosin are reknown for combining silken harmonies and an unusual array of instruments with a rich mastery of traditional rhythmic patterns and song.

The Boycott
Around 8:15 we'll transition to the indoor space at the Heron for a rare Northwest appearance by Backbone Campaign friend Kathryn Blume, in her one woman show, "The Boycott." Packed to the rafters with moxie and magic, The Boycott tells the story of the First Lady of the United States launching a nationwide sex strike to fight global warming and save the world. Come for a raucous tour of Oval Office affairs, psychadelic absinthe trips, enchanted frogs, movie star cameos, and land in a heap of unabashed hope.

Because of its subject matter, the show may not be appropriate for children; for more information see www.theboycottplay.com

Orion Magazine had this to say about "The Boycott":
Imagine you are the first lady, generally concerned with the social obligations of your position (gracefully entertaining dignitaries, sympathizing with storm victims, attending ribbon-cutting ceremonies), when you become acutely aware of global warming. How best to use your high-profile status to bring your president/ husband over to the urgency of the crisis? Launching a national sex strike complete with city bus advertisements and a PR campaign might just be the ticket.

This is the basis of Kathryn Blume's one-woman show "The Boycott," in which the main character is the U.S. president's wife, Lyssa Stratton. The play is a contemporary incarnation of Aristophanes' comedy Lysistrata, in which women from Athens and Sparta refuse to consort with their husbands until the men have stopped their warring. The twenty-four-hundred-year-old idea has been recently revived, and not only in dramatic form. In 1996, the women of Pergamon, Turkey, denied their husbands until a gold-mining company notorious for its cyanide-leaching techniques was ousted from their village. The women ultimately prevailed.

Don't miss this great event and your chance to be a part of this historic election season by launching the Procession for the Future National Tour for change.
