Violin for One
After performing sold out shows last spring with her NYC-based string quintet Sybarite5, violinist SARAH WHITNEY returns to her hometown to present an intriguing solo violin recital.

The versatility of the violin has been well recognized in the worlds of classical, jazz, bluegrass, tango and pop repertoire. Sarah will explores these genres performing works by Bach, Piazzolla, Mark O'Connor, John Lennon and more, including some of her own transcriptions and arrangements. Come learn, discover and experience the violin in a new way!
Violinist SARAH WHITNEY has been heard worldwide across stages in Europe, Asia, South America and the United States, active as a solo, orchestral and chamber musician. She is currently a violinist in the string quintet Sybarite5 that won the 2011 Concert Artists Guild Victor Elmaleh Competition and recently gave their Carnegie Hall debut. Sybarite5 has also performed at Lincoln Center, Alice Tully Hall, the Galapagos Artspace, the Library of Congress and on the CBS Early Show. Sarah has been a guest artist of the Cleveland Institute of Music Faculty Concert Series, WMP's Strad for Lunch Series, Concerts at the Common, the Cleveland Composer's Guild and the Memphis Chamber Music Society Solo Concert Series. Sarah frequents the orchestral stage, performing with the String Orchestra of New York City, the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Americas, the Sarasota Orchestra and the Charleston Symphony. She has held the position of concertmaster for the Livonia Symphony and the Michigan Opera Works Orchestra and has served as assistant concertmaster of the Greater Lansing Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Gustav Meier. Sarah holds a Bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan and Master of Music and Professional Studies Degrees from the Cleveland Institute of Music. Her teachers include Paul Kantor, William Preucil, Kathleen Winkler, Aaron Berofsky, Cyrus Forough, and Stephen Shipps.
