Acting Off the Stage
This workshop is for the non-traditional actor and for those who perform (or would like to perform) in non-traditional spaces--those spaces where the fourth wall is at its thinnest. Immersive performers--whether they be dramatic actors, haunters, Ren Faire workers, dinner theater characters, improvisers, burlesque performers, drag acts, or miscellaneous vaudevillians--face unique challenges stage actors do not. In this three-hour session, we will discover improvisational skills to help us embrace the chaos of theater in the moment.
This workshop will include techniques for: - non-proscenium stage-craft - communicating compassionately to patrons without words - using the fullness of a 360 degree space - encouraging patron interaction - honoring patrons as scene partners - fostering connection - physical contact and consent - confidence and controlling the space - the artful segue
All welcome, no experience necessary, and a variety of unusual experiences applauded. This workshop will last 3 hours with a short break in between. Students are encouraged to bring water, perhaps a snack, and dress for comfort!
