Sweets and Sweet Sounds
Sweets and Sweet Sounds is a vocal recital by Leann Conley-Holcom and Dana Alexander, accompanied by Chris Alexander.
The event will begin at 2:00 PM with a silent auction and wine and hors-d'oeuvres reception, followed by the recital at 3:00 PM.
All proceeds benefit the First Congregational United Church of Christ of Santa Rosa.
Leann Conley-Holcom is a highly-regarded singer and conductor hailed for her "sumptuous tone and fine technique" (Music Web International) and "performances of great energy and charm" (Kitsap Sun). Leann regularly performs with a variety of professional choirs, including the Berwick Chorus of the Oregon Bach Festival, Tucson Chamber Artists, Sedona Academy of Chamber Singers, and the Festivalensemble Stuttgart of the Internationale Bachakademie. Recent operatic roles include La Femme in Poulenc's one-woman tragedy, La voix humaine, La Princesse in L'Enfant et les sortileges, Rose in Street Scene, Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro, and Sophie in Der Rosenkavalier. Recent solo engagements include appearances with the Oregon Bach Festival, Bremerton Symphony, Coeur D'Alene Symphony and Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra. In March 2012 she made her solo debut at Carnegie Hall in John Rutter's Magnificat with the New York City Chamber Orchestra.
Leann holds a master's degree in choral conducting from Northern Arizona University, where she led the University Singers and assistant-conducted the esteemed Shrine of the Ages Choir alongside Dr. Edith Copley. Prior to her graduate studies, she earned a Bachelors degree in voice from Pacific Lutheran University, where she had the honor of being named a Mary Baker Russell Scholar and Richard D. Moe Arts Fellow.
She is Director of Choral and Vocal Activities at Chabot College, Associate Music Director at the Grammy-award-winning Pacific Boychoir Academy, and Music Director at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Santa Rosa.
Dana Alexander is in her fourteenth year as Director of Choral Music at Montgomery High School, where she also teaches group piano classes. Since relocating to the North Bay in 1999, Mrs. Alexander has performed regularly with choral ensembles in the community, including the Sonoma Bach Choir and Sonoma Bach's chamber choir, Circa 1600. Mrs. Alexander has also performed with the acclaimed Bay Area choral ensemble, The Choral Project, as well as performing as alto soloist in the Redwood Empire Sing-Along Messiah in 2006, 2008 and 2011.
Mrs. Alexander has studied with internationally acclaimed contralto Karen Clark, as well as Jenni Samuelson and Helene Joseph-Weil. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from Fresno State University, and her Master of Arts in Choral Conducting from San Jose State, where she studied with renowned choral conductor Dr. Charlene Archibeque.
Mrs. Alexander resides in Santa Rosa with her husband, piano accompanist Chris Alexander and their beautiful daughter Ella, who will be 2 in July.
Chris Alexander has been pianist and music director for a wide variety of choral and musical theater groups in the San Francisco Bay Area. Since moving to Santa Rosa in late 1999, Mr. Alexander has been pianist or music director for Roustabout Youth Theater and 6th Street Playhouse in Santa Rosa, Santa Rosa Junior College Theater Arts, New Spreckels Theater Company in Rohnert Park, Raven Players in Healdsburg, Sonoma County Repertory Theater in Sebastopol, Cinnabar Opera Theater in Petaluma, Hoochi-Doo Productions in Sonoma, and choirs at Sonoma State University. Previously while living in the Peninsula and South Bay, Mr. Alexander performed with the San Jose State Chorale (including a tour to Russia in 2000), TheatreWorks of Palo Alto (including World and West Coast musical premieres), the Gilbert and Sullivan Society of San Jose, and the Redwood Symphony, among other groups, as well as being an accompanist for the Stanford Savoyards for 11 years. Mr. Alexander received his BA in Music from Stanford University, and works during the day as Program Analyst for Goodwill Industries of the Redwood Empire. Mr. Alexander would like to thank his wife, Dana (Montgomery High School's Choral Director) and baby daughter Ella, for being wonderful!
