Sirius. B

In the Mountain XPress's Best of Western North Carolina for 2009,
Sirius.B was voted:

#1 Rock Band
#1 Experimental Band (tie)
#2 Indie Band
#3 Live Show of 2009

(Beating Sirius.B for live Best Live Show were The Beastie Boys and Phish.)

~
"Sirius.B. carries the brewing excitement of something big in the making."
-- Mountain Xpress

Sirius.B brings to you the finest Absurdist Gypsy Folk Funk Punk that the world has to offer. Their "impressively irreverent, combustible, three-ring circus of sound" (as described by the Mountain Xpress) is formed using an ancient recipe of gypsy melodies, Andean folk instrumentation, and Uzbekistani dance rhythms blended with a solid base created from some elements of American rock.

Shortly after its conception in December of 2006 by Ferdon, Bond, and Imhotep; the band achieved a large fan base and has generated a significant buzz in the greater Asheville area. They tour regionally to venues in Atlanta and Athens, GA; Columbia and Charleston, SC; and Knoxville and Johnson City, TN. They consistently sell out shows in advance, hosting ticket sales on their main website.

The excitement of a Sirius.B show has been compared by the press to what "one would imagine Athens, Georgia's 40 Watt Club to have been like in the early days of REM".

Bayou Diesel

Fun lovin' accordion powered mardi-gras party band from the WNC area!!

Biography

Bayou Diesel has been traveling the obscure gig-highways of Western North Carolina since 2005. The band has always focused on performing the powerful Cajun, Zydeco and Mardi Gras style dance music of Louisiana. Featuring the accordion, rubboard, rhythm section and occasional French lyrics, Bayou Diesel has cooked up some tasty jam-balaya. In 2008, the Asheville Zydeco Dance Krewe challenged the band to play some authentic sounding Zydeco grooves for their monthly dances. A list of favorite tunes was provided and suddenly, those 10-forward-gears lurched into overdrive. With the addition of the 1 and 3-row button-accordions and a dedicated 5 man roster, the band has stirred the roux on the Rue de Zydeco. Bayou Diesel's mission is to embody the Zydeco "joi de vivre" of high-energy community-friendly dance music that all-ages can enjoy anywhere. In the spirit of Mardi-Gras, the Purple, Gold and 'Green' powered Bayou Diesel easily navigates the good-time mountain-bayou experience. Let the Good Times Roll!

Description

With the spirit of Louisiana cajun and zydeco style, we play and perform a variety of two-steps, waltz, zydeco swing, double clutchin' and party favorites with a drivin' beat

Empire Strikes Brass

Empire Strikes Brass was formed in April of 2012---the first and only 2nd line brass band in Asheville. A gumbo of musicians from bands such as the Squirrel Nut Zippers, Karl Denson's Tiny Universe, Firecracker Jazz Band, Common Foundation, and Kung Fu Dynamite (just to name a few), the ESB core group consists of saxophonist, Paul Juhl; sousaphone, trumpet, Henry Westmoreland; cornet, Jay Widenhouse; drums, Jay Good; saxophone, vocals, Debrissa McKinney; bass trumpet, Steve Lynch Maass; trombone, Alex Kelly: trombone, tuba, JP Furnas---with special guests appearing often.

Original to the Blue Ridge Mountains, the band owes its style to the colorful culture, funky flair, and music of New Orleans. Bands like the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Galactic, The Funky Meters, and Dr. John have been their influence. When they march through the downtown streets of Asheville, their funky sound spontaneously pulls people into the streets to join the dancing and musical celebration that is the Empire Strikes Brass.

David Desmelik Trio

Dave Desmelik has established himself as an accomplished and rising singer/songwriter whose music might best be described as Americana or Alt/Country. Drawing upon influences from country to bluegrass to blues to rock and roll, Desmelik writes and performs an original blend of songs. His seven independent albums, dating from 1999 to present, have garnered acclaim and positive reviews in various music communities around the world and he has toured extensively in support of his songs including numerous performances in the USA and UK. Focusing on lyrics, melody, instrumental and word phrasing, Desmelik mixes distinct ingredients into his songwriting as well as his live shows. Music critic Rein van den Berg (altcountryforum.nl) states "Desmelik's music is honest, his are relevant questions, and he plays guitar viciously. This man carries with him the legacy of a dying breed."

Currently, Dave resides in Brevard, NC and continues to write songs and play music for his growing fanbase. He performs live as a solo artist, or as a duo or trio. Perhaps music reviewer Joe Sample (Focus Newspaper) sums it up best with his description, "Dave Desmelik's brand of Americana is the kind that makes you neither cry in your beer nor suck it down at a grim pace. His is the kind that makes you stop drinking for just a moment to acknowledge it with an emotional nod, a shiver of recognition that touches your own experience."
