THOUGHT4FOOD 2 Events Package
Copia Presents THOUGHT 4 FOOD: 2 Remaining Events in a 3 Evening Series May 21 & June 18 with special thanks to Sponsors Vancity, Choices Markets & Indigo Natural Products Management
Are you someone who loves to eat amazing great food? Have you got to a place in life when you think about where it came from and what it does in your body as well as how it tastes? Do you have a recipe for some fabulous soup or sauce (or something else mouth-wateringly good) that makes all your friends say "Wow you should bottle this!"? Have you been harbouring a dream of someday opening a café, restaurant, food cart or artisan manufacturing company? Are you already in the food business and looking for ideas, inspiration and supportive networks to help you grow?
Answering Yes to even one of these questions means THOUGHT4FOOD is right in your heartspace, and, like many Copia events bringing heart and soul together with business and strategy, we have a LOT to offer you! Join us for one or all of these events featuring some of the best and brightest conscious minds on the lower mainland Foodie scene, all with mindful approaches to health, sustainability and entrepreneurship.
FOOD BITES
We've got a fabulous range of the region's best snack, soda, beer, gourmet market, grocery and restaurant exhibitors offering up hearty samples of their wares for you to enjoy at each event, with many opportunities to take home some of what you love most as well.
SOUND BITES
There has never been a more important time in human history for us to think about what we eat and where it comes from. There has probably also never been a more exciting time to be a Mindful Foodie or build a Conscious Food Business. THOUGHT4FOOD is a series of three evening events designed to inspire, educate, and bring together food growers, makers and eaters with distributors, retailers, and media.
We're serving up the whole food system, in easily digestible pieces. Our speakers include the best and brightest of culinary creatives in our area, with a range of expertise that covers off every milestone in the cycle from growing food (at home or as a producer) to preparing food (again both for personal consumption only and for sale) and on through manufacturing, distributing, retailing and turning it back into soil! For those with a business bent, each panel includes speakers in the early stages of a startup, at midsize development and all the way up to national and global reach no matter where you are in your dream of sustainable foodie entrepreneurship, you will find yourself represented on our stage and gain a good sense of next steps.
(All events are 6:00pm - 9:00pm @ Vancouver's beautifully eco-restored heritage conference space, Dodson House, Hastings & Main)
There is no better way to become conscious about what you eat than to grow and make your own food, whether that takes the form of tilling a garden, growing herbs in a window box or playing with new recipes until they become your own. Our panelists for this first part of the series are local innovators in gardening, permaculture, culinary arts and organic whole foods. Their insights about growing a business and satisfying your palette in a healthy way will both inspire and delight you.
PART 2: Secret Sauce Ingredients From Recipe to Check-out Stand Tuesday, May 21 Featuring Startups, Innovators and Award-Winners in Manufacture, Brokerage & Retail
Lots of people have great recipes and hundreds of fans in their community saying "Wow you should bottle that and sell it!" There are a LOT of steps between the perfecting of a secret sauce and building a sustainable business that puts it on a wide range of grocery shelves. This panel, with its mix of chefs, founders, brokers and grocery leaders will help map the milestones every growing foodie business needs to hit and give valuable tips to foodies on how to support your favourite farmer's market produce getting into your local stores. Speakers includes: Ian Walker (Left Coast Naturals), Gordon Truscott (Indigo Natural Products Management), Ishkandar Ahmed (Choices Markets), Tyson Reimer (Woodlands Smokehouse Commissary), Peggy Speir (Frostbites), Saul Brown (Saul Good Gift Co)
PART 3: Farm to Table Building Strong Links in the Food Chain Tuesday, June 18 Featuring Commercial Growers, Locovore Restaurants & Foodie Bloggers
Sustainable Foodies eat very carefully and consciously at home, but what about when you go out? It's great to know that there are natural, locovore restaurants supplied by responsible growers and other sustainable vendors, serving up menus you can trust! How does a restaurant (or food cart) build those relationships? And how can small growers and makers get on the vendor list of those restaurants? And, if you haven't thought of this as a consumer before now, why should you care? Speakers include: Andre LaRiviere (Smarter Restaurants), Peggy Vogler (Aphrodite's Organic Café & Pie Shop), Hunter Moyes (The Tiffin Project), Suzanne Fielden (Rocky Mountain Flatbread Co), Eric Pateman (Edible Canada), Chris Whittaker (Forage Restaurant)
EXHIBITORS include:
Howe Sound Brewery | Rocky Mountain Flatbread Company | Jump Up and Go Go | Greene Goodies | SIP Natural Craft Soda | Organic Lives | Left Coast Naturals
