Yuba Watershed Fungus Foray - Big Parcel
21st Annual Yuba Watershed Fungus Foray
December 8th, 2018
9 am to 4:30 pm
Start the day at the Shady Creek Outdoor School and Event Center. After a short introduction, you will carpool with your group to the Big Parcel, a BLM parcel off of Jackass Flats Road.
This is the closest site to the Shady Creek Center, which means the most time exploring the woods. There are early mature forests of madrone, black oak, Douglas-fir, and pine to explore. Edible varieties found in past: Queen Bolete, Matsutake, Lions Mane, Honey Mushroom, and Blewits.
Bring a bagged lunch and be prepared to walk in the damp woods. Also useful: collection basket, waxed paper bags, knife, and hand lens. Please carpool if possible. This is a rain or shine event.
Following the collection foray, we will come together at the Shady Creek Outdoor School and Event Center for identification discussions, fungi related presentations, educational workshops, and there will be wild mushroom soups and other wild crafted and delicious food for sale.
