Polar Bears: A heartwarming holiday tragedy
Written and directed by David Templeton ('Wretch Like Me," 'Pinky,' 'Mary Shelley's Body') and performed by Chris Schloemp ('The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time'), this alternately hilarious and poignant one-man-show tells the story of an average father, who finds himself a bit in-over-his-head one holiday season, and goes to increasingly outlandish lengths to keep his kids' belief in Santa alive. It seems his own faith in Santa was disrupted when he was just four-years-old (something to do with the polar bear wrapping paper used for Saint Nick's presents), and he's hellbent on making sure that doesn't happen to Jenna and Andy. Spoiler alert: his plan backfires, in unpredictable and outrageous ways. Based on a true story, 'Polar Bears' was originally staged at Main Stage West Theater and Sonoma Arts Live, and is being presented in Marin by Actors Basement Theater Company.
