Tartuffe - Presented By The Village Playhouse
Tartuffe by Moliere

With a Tony-Award winning Broadway revival in 1978 and made into a movie that same year, this neoclassical satirical comedy centers on a wealthy man being duped by a penniless vagrant.

When the vagrant Tartuffe disguises himself as a virtuous and pious man, he is able to get himself into the good graces of the wealthy Orgon and his mother Mme. Pernelle.  They take Tartuffe into their home and promise him Orgons daughters hand in marriage (even as he secretly attempts to seduce Orgons wife, Elmire).  Though everyone else in the family sees through Tartuffes rouse, they are unable to convince Orgon that Tartuffe is anything by what he says.

ABOUT THE VILLAGE PLAYHOUSE:
The mission of the Village Playhouse is simple; to provide a place for creativity and learning, to our volunteers and the community we serve. Since our first production in 1978, we have been a place for those interested in theatre to come together and find new ways to express themselves. Our goal is to help our volunteers push the boundaries of what they thought was possible and to stimulate the community we serve with thought-provoking productions, both classic and new.

2018-2019 440TH SEASON:
The Village Playhouse is 40!  To celebrate we are reaching out to all those involved with our first season (as the Village Playhouse of Wauwatosa) in 1978 - 1979.  If you were involved with Showboat, Mary Mary, Night Watch or An Evening with Cole Porter, we'd love to see you again!  See http://villageplayhouse.org/1978-1979-season/ for details.
