out cry: students celebrating art
WHAT is it? out cry: students celebrating art is a new show being premiered by the Auburn Regional Theatre, featuring a live band, an edgy, youthful cast of high school and college students, and upbeat rock and pop musical numbers from some of todays hit Broadway shows. The aim of the show is to empower youth to actively work for causes which they support, like arts in schools.
WHO is involved? The cast and band are all students or graduates of King County high schools, who have resolved to give back to the community which shaped them by volunteering their time and talent to this project.
WHY? Art education is essential to producing creative, resourceful, critical thinking members of society, but arts programs in public schools across the country are suffering. The students involved in out cry maintain that the general public, even and especially young people can make a difference. The point of out cry is to inspire and empower youth to take action. To that end, the show, in addition to being a celebration of live music and theatre, will be a chance for audience members to learn about the ways in which they can support the arts in the local community.
