Event
There Be Dragons
Part coming-of-age story, part spiritual adventure, this disarming and theatrical solo takes us from Venice, California to Kathmandu, as an Amherst religion major looks for the real thing via esoteric teachings, near-death experiences, giant Komodo lizards and doomed romance. Evan Specter's post-post-modern embodied storytelling introduces us to a psychic pool-cleaner, a Tibetan secret-agent, a German past-life coach, an array of Axis power and Australian hotties, and various Buddhist, Hindu, Sufi and self-taught spiritual guides.
Evan Specter has been making theater and singing since grade school, and was introduced to autobiographical improvisation through a chance meeting at a mountaintop monastery in Nepal. Evan is a founding member of Tumbleheart, a 2 yr-old improvisational ensemble. He has been studying movement, writing and improvisation with Nina Wise and Corey Fisher for ten years. This performance is dedicated to an Uncle he never met, but whose tortured life cast a shadow over his family. Evan lives in Berkeley with his brilliant wife, a 6 year old racecar driver and a 3 year old lioness.
