Bluebeard
"Isn't it better to be put away somewhere safe than to get sent out to a world without a heart."
We all know the fairy tale about Bluebeard, who keeps his wives hostage, insisting that they be obedient to his will. It's clearly a tale of patriarchal rule. But how do we react to the tale when the controller is a mother bent on protecting her daughters?
25 years after the end-of-the-world-as-we-know-it (well, maybe... maybe not) four girls are brought up in an abandoned church, never allowed out by the girls' mother, Blue. Pericles Snowdon's playful and beautifully-written play explores parenthood, political subjugation, gender politics, betrayal, and the apocalypse. The play is dark, creepy and engaging, with a touch of dark humor. A West Coast Premiere. Directed by David Domkoski.
The cast includes Nicole Lockett, Kaylie Raner, Heather Christopher, Annie Green, Cherilyn Williams and Kathi Aleman. Production design by Erin Chanfrau.
