Contestoria Puppetry Workshop
Learn how to tell stories using pictures and songs. Contestorias are a great form for explaining ideas, telling a story, or simply entertaining. Watch examples of Contestoria, learn the form, and create your own stories in this workshop. We will begin with a basic explanation of contestoria followed by a performance of a "Dolly Wagglers" style cardboard contestoria. Then a discussion about the many ways to perform a contestoria, the "strong and wrong" philosophy, and making contestorias with a political agenda.
For the remaining time, we will create and perform contestorias in small groups, encouraging the creation of jokes, dialogues, and titled dances to enhance picture performance. Coffee, donuts, materials, and fun all included!
