11th Annual Gram Parsons International Festival
Headlining the 11th Annual Gram Parsons InterNational Nashville, Sat Nov 3 (GPI always honors Gram Parsons' birthday on the Saturday closest to Nov 5) is the legendary Earl Poole Ball, who played piano for over 20 years with Johnny Cash and who was integral to two groundbreaking Gram Parsons albums, one with the International Submarine Band (Safe at Home) and one with The Byrds (Sweetheart of the Rodeo). Supporting Earl will be his Cosmic Sweethearts, well-known Nashville players Renee Wahl on vocals, Mike Khalil shredding guitar, and Joe Webber on bass.

Booked last winter, this is the original 50th anniversary Sweetheart of the Rodeo "tribute show." Our concept is to not only play all the tracks on Sweetheart, but to take the elements that influenced these pivotal albums, from country folk to rock, and present artists who have taken flight on the wings of this music 50 years later. You'll hear all of Sweetheart, but unlike other such shows, seven different bands will cover all songs on the album (and much more Gram!), together with their own current music that was influenced by these albums.

The Burrito Brothers® just debuted their new album, "Still Growing Strong," bridges past to future, and pays homage to the roots while taking an explorational musical journey. As Gram himself said about the Burritos, "The ideall keep going. Its not like its dead. Whether I do it or anybody else does, its got to keep going. For more on the current incarnation of the Burritos (there have been many) and their connection with the Burrito lineage, see http://www.theburritobrothers.net/bio.html.

Ronnie Guilbeau's pedigree as the son of Burrito Bro Gib Guilbeau goes without saying. He will be joined by Michael Webb, Jack Sundrud, and Rick Lonow as the band Flesh+Bone (who happen to comprise three fourths of Poco).

Coming off his successful tour of the South, Louisiana man and Nashville native Chris Watts brings his band to our show for the second time. Chris brilliantly merges songwriting and performing like few others.

On Sweetheart Gram and The Byrds took "folk country" and made it Cosmic American. Heart Hunters is an innovative band that evolves that idiom. Coming in from Atlanta for the show, their new album produced by Peter Case has received remarkable reviews. From Americana Highways: "There is not a single misfire in the entire collection. The players came to play and Peter Case put the pieces together resulting in a fantastic album. "American Eclipse" is a crisp, personal, engaging, intriguing, inspired release from Heart Hunters. Find tour dates." In honor of Sweetheart they'll be covering "Blue Canadian Rockies" and "Nothing Was Delivered."

Joshua Black Wilkins is an amazing songwriter who just released his 11th studio album (some of which he'll play at our 11th annual). He is also a distinguished photographer, having worked with his buddy Justin Townes Earle, Marty Stuart, Amanda Shires, Bobby Bare, Patterson Hood, and the late Charlie Louvin among many others. Joshua would tell you that he and all those listed will testify they owe a debt to Gram Parsons and Sweetheart (except Charlie Louvin, whom Gram owed a debt to!).

Way Behind The Sun is a band coming down from the Catskills region of New York. To close the night, lovely Virginia and the guys are going to mop the floor with all of your (and Gram's) favorites... and guess who's going to come back up and join them on an all verses (Byrds, Dylan, Band) plus one specially written for the occasion, the evening's finale of "You Ain't Going Nowhere"? That's right The Legend himself, Mr. Earl Poole Ball. It all comes full circle.
