Avant Garden Party: An Erik Satie Satay
Return with us to the enchanted walkways and berthing bouquets of Robert Eberlee's luminous gardens! This year's Avant Garden Party rounds out season 40 with a festival's worth of musical experiences, focusing in particular on the curious and imaginative music of Erik Satie.
A marvelous range of Satie's work will be performed: NewMusicWorks Ensemble and Guest Artists: The Great Morgani (Satie a la accordion), soprano, Sheila Willey, the Ariose Singers and more. Live encounters with the Eternal Erik Satie!!
Marimba music of Africa and Santa Cruz by the wonderful Singing Wood Marimba Ensemble. And then Bill Walker's incomparable, atmospheric electric slide guitar!
Parisian airs and the embraceable absurdities of Dadaism will abound at NMW's ever-popular outdoor mix of diverse musical styles and unannounced surprises.
Cardboard & Conceptual Artist, Dag Weiser is creating life-size, standing panels depicting a beautifully odd cityscape, drawn by Satie as a gift to his beloved, illusive Suzanne Valadon. Behind the panel will be Satie's apartment...in concept and sound, at least.
Master Chef, India Jozseph Schultz suffuses French - Vietnamese cuisines, to once again unveil delicious, one-of-a-kind culinary creations. Wine bar and beer on tap!
TEA TOO!! Hidden Peak Teahouse, for their 5th year @ AGP, offer serene tea ceremonies, tucked away in a quiet garden nook.
This year's Avant Garden Party lifts the leave to unveil rare shades of Satie's curious genius that are not as ubiquitous as the fully domseticated "Gymnopédie" piano set. "Three Pieces in the Shape of a Pear," "Furniture Music" and "Vexations," along with Satie-influenced works by John Cage, Virgil Thomson. And much much more!
And a Silent Auction worth talking about; with unique items of eclectic-to-lavish attributes. Including...The return of our most popular Silent Auction item, the South African Safari.
