Shibari 301: Partial Suspension Shibari
Partial Suspension Bondage is beautiful, sexy, and intense. Many experienced rope tops and bottoms actually prefer it to full suspension for play, and its an important intermediate step to doing full suspension. Come learn how at this workshop!
In this four-hour workshop, we will review the hands-free chest harness, the two-rope gote shibari tie, and then learn and practice the necessary and important technical skills for several foundational partial suspensions.
Well cover: Selecting Gear Evaluating Top Rigs & Hard Points Basic Top Line Techniques Tying into harnesses and tying limbs Line Management Safety Issues Sample Partial Suspension Body Positions and Play
Class Prerequisites: Tops should be comfortable tying a structurally solid 2-rope gote shibari (box tie), be aware of potential nerves issues associated with rope bondage, and have solid communication skills around same when working with their partner. If they do not wish to use a box tie for the course, it's fine to tie a hands-free chest harness, instead.
Bottoms should be comfortable being tied in a gote shibari/TK or chest harness, be competent in monitoring themselves for nerve/circulation issues associated with rope bondage, & have solid communication skills around same when working with their partner.
Due to the detailed & time-intensive nature of this workshop, choosing one person in the duo to tie will be optimal.
This workshop is appropriate for all genders, sexual orientations, and body types! To ensure personal attention to each participant, class size will be limited to 8 duos.
Please bring: (1) 8 meter to 30 length of 8mm hemp or jute rope, or human load-rated synthetic line. Regatta braid works nicely, as does Hempex. (5) 30 lengths of 6mm hemp or jute rope (4) Pear-shaped climbing carabiners. We recommend the Petzl Hera Attache, available at REI. Catalog Item #109589 Your carabiners MUST be rated for climbing. Optional Gear: Steel Suspension Ring
