How can we understand what plants know? Monica Gagliano, Ph.D., plant intelligence researcher, is the author of a provocative new book, Thus Spoke the Plant. She and ethnobotanist Kathleen Harrison will discuss plant behavior and communication.
Dr. Gagliano's research on Plant Bioacoustics at the University of Sydney, Australia, is providing evidence for what indigenous peoples have long understood-- that plants are intelligent and can communicate. She is presenting this theory as a keynote speaker at Bioneers just before coming to our event. Kathleen Harrison will engage in an onstage conversation with Monica, about the ideas in her book. These include ways of "listening" to plants, and how what is being studied scientifically can help us to "reclaim a far more profound level of perceiving the world than we are accustomed to." They'll explore how this evolving theory fits with animist views and with visionary plant species, such as ayahuasca.
Copies of her book, Thus Spoke the Plant, will be for sale at the event, and the author will be available to sign them.
Tuesday, October 23 from 7-9pm, at Occidental Center for the Arts ~ Occidental, California. Tickets will also be available at the door.
