Sharon Springs Poetry Festival -- Dinner with the Poets
Klinkhart Hall Arts Center, Inc. is proud to present the second Sharon Springs Poetry Festival, in Sharon Springs, NY October 18-20, 2018.
This year's events will begin with a fundraiser for the Festival: Dinner with the Poets at the American Hotel on Thursday October 18 at 6:30 PM. Attendees will be able to meet the poets in advance of the public events, and each of the visiting poets -- Billy Collins, Tracy K. Smith, and Anne Waldman -- will offer a special reading from their work.
The menu for the event will be a special four course meal: soup, salad, main course, and dessert. Seating will be "family style." Cash bar will be available.
Thanks to the generosity of the American Hotel, 100% of your ticket purchase will go to support the Poetry Festival.
About the Festival
Founded in 2017 by internationally acclaimed poet Paul Muldoon -- Pulitzer Prize winner and 2017 recipient of the Queen's Medal for Poetry (UK) -- the 2018 Festival features former US Poet Laureate Billy Collins, Current Poet Laureate Tracy K. Smith, and Anne Waldman, acclaimed poet and cultural activist. (Click the name to read more about the poets.)
The Festival offers free public events including:
Friday, October 19, the visiting poets conduct poetry workshops with middle and high school students at Sharon Springs Central School.
Also Friday October 19, a free public reading by the visiting poets at 7 PM in the Sharon Springs Central School Auditorium.
On Saturday, October 20, Paul Muldoon will conduct a free poetry writing workshop at the Sharon Springs Free Library, 10 AM - 12 PM (pre-registration required; contact the Library at 518-284-3126 to sign up).
And at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 20 in the Sharon Springs Free Library, you can attend another free event: Billy Collins in Conversation with Paul Muldoon; a unique opportunity to hear two great poets talk about -- anything they want to talk about!
Also on Saturday October 20 at 7 PM, "Your Poem or Mine," a free event for members of the community to read a favorite poem --their own or one by someone else. This event will take place at the Roseboro Hotel in Sharon Springs.
