The Revolutionists by Lauren Gunderson
The Adobe Rose is pleased to announce the beginning of ART Productions Fourth Season with Lauren Gunderson"s acclaimed new social commentary, THE REVOLUTIONISTS. It is often said "Well behaved women seldom make history". It makes a great button and even a better play as these four women muse about the meaning of life --  and lose their heads -- during the French Revolution in this brilliant and witty comedy set during the Reign of Terror. While lingering in a Jacobin prison, playwright Olympe de Gouges, assassin Charlotte Corday, former queen Marie Antoinette, and Haitian rebel Marianne Angelle verbally joust, mull the power of storytelling, and shatter our preconceptions about the role of women in the arts, on stage and in politics, and not just in 1793. A quartet, a revolutionary dream fugue...a true story, The Revolutionists is a wildly creative work by one of Americas boldest new theatrical voices that takes us on a grand comedic and ultimately lyrical adventure.

Gunderson has become one of Americas most produced playwrights. She recently received her second Harold and Mimi Steinberg/American Theatre Critics Association New Play Award at the Humana Festival in Louisville for The Book of Will. She received the prestigious award in 2014 for her play I and You.  Her searing one woman show about domestic violence and gun control, Natural Shocks, was performed in April at the Adobe Rose.

Directed by Lindsey Hope Pearlman, with Ariana Karp (Charlotte Corday), Mary Beth Lindsey (Olympe de Gouges), Maureen Joyce McKenna (Marie Antoinette), and Danielle Louise Reddick (Marianne Angelle).
