SAFE (Salem Alliance for the Environment) invites you to a very special tribute for community leader Jeff Barz-Snell as he begins a new chapter of his life in another community.
For 20 years, Jeff has earned his reputation as a champion of the environment, social justice, and the ethics and values that so many of us embrace. As a tireless environmental advocate, Jeff - one of the first people accepted for training by Al Gore in his Climate Reality Project - was also selected as a Fellow at Oxford University. SAFE has been honored to have him serve as co-chair for many years.
Jeff applied his environmental expertise to help lead the Salem Sustainability, Energy, and Resiliency Committee and secure an agreement from the Salem power plant owners to agree to a host of provisions outlined in the Community Benefits Agreement -- including support for solar installations in the city and assurances that land be set aside to bring power from offshore wind to the power plant site.
A passionate defender of human rights and social justice, Jeff cares deeply about minority communities. He was a leading proponent of the Sanctuary City movement to protect undocumented immigrants; he proudly flew the LGBTQ rainbow flag at his church; and he introduced the Muslim community to local residents with a series of speakers at the First Church.
Please join us at the Hawthorne Hotel for the opportunity to honor this remarkable man. Funds raised for this event will enable SAFE to build on his achievements and continue developing our vision of a greener, more sustainable Salem.
Hors doeuvres, cash bar, free parking. Ticket and sponsorship options below.
