Join us for the 9th Annual Food Systems Tour at APHA! Spend a Saturday afternoon exploring San Diego with the American Public Health Association (APHA) Food and Environment Working Group and the San Diego Food System Alliance. We'll showcase some of the city's best and brightest organizations working to build a healthy, sustainable, and equitable food system - and end the day with a shared meal and social hour. When: Saturday, November 10th from 12:00 PM to 6:30 PM ***NOTE TIME CHANGE*** Where: Buses leave from the San Diego Convention Center (111 W Harbor Dr, San Diego, CA 92101). Tour stops will include:
1. City Heights Farmers Market, a multi-cultural urban farmers market in the heart of east San Diego that sells local produce and goods every Saturday morning.
2. Northgate Gonzalez Market, one of a family of markets in southern California owned and operated by the Gonzalez family since the 1980s.
3. Mt. Hope Community Garden, where we'll hear about Project New Village, a local nonprofit with a goal of improving fresh food access and building healthier neighborhoods in southeastern San Diego.
4. Kitchens for Good, a social enterprise with a mission of breaking the cycles of food waste, hunger, and poverty through innovative solutions in workforce training, healthy food production, and social enterprise.
Tickets: $45 per person (will include a meal and 1 drink ticket). Seats are limited.
