design:Rolls - An Architectural Bike Tour 2018
This 4-mile bicycle tour of Columbus, presented by AIA Columbus Committee on the Environment, is an effort to bring sustainability practices and architecture to members and the public. The tour will have 6 stops total and will explore new buildings in the Downtown/Franklinton areas. Each stop will have a presenter to discuss topics about the area. The tour starts at the BDT Architects & Designers office; participants will view options for a contemporary office space in a historic building from 1924 with some innovative interior finishes. The second stop is the The View on Grant, an adaptive reuse of an existing vacant warehouse building adjacent to the BalletMet. After that we will bike to the Canopy by Hilton which is one of the first of a new line of urban hotels under the Hilton brand. The fourth stop is the Michael B. Coleman Center which houses the departments of Building and Zoning services, Public Services, Public Utilities, and Development. The fifth stop is the Columbus Idea Foundry which is the largest maker space in the country and features workshops with high and low tech equipment. The last stop will be a quick rest stop at Land Grant before riding back. Not only will this tour educate the public about architectural significance in the new development in Columbus, Ohio, but will act as a means to promote safe bicycle riding and healthier communities in general.
Bike rental is available. Please choose the bike rental option if you would like to rent a bike.
