Dessa presents My Own Devices
Zenith Bookstore is thrilled to welcome musician, artist, and now author Dessa to Duluth on Saturday, Sept. 29. Dessa will discuss, read from, and sign her new memoir My Own Devices - True Stories from the Road on Music, Science, and Senseless Love.
This is a ticketed event. $30 advanced ticket includes 1 copy of My Own Devices. Tickets may also be purchased at Zenith Bookstore or by phone at (218) 606-1777. This event is co-sponsored by MPR's The Current.
In her literary debut memoir, rapper and singer Dessa gives a candid account of her life in the van as a hard-touring musician, her determination to beat long odds to make a name for herself, and her struggle to fall out of love with someone in her band. Raw and intimate, Dessa demonstrates just how far the mind can travel while the body is on the six-hour ride to the next rap show.
My Own Devices is an uncompromising and candid account of a life in motion, in music, and in love. Dessa is as compelling on the page as she is onstage, making My Own Devices the debut of a unique and deft literary voice.
Incredible gravitas and presence and humanity. Theres just so much intelligence to everything she does. NPR, All Songs Considered
