The Language of Dance with Wilson Pico
Wilson Pico, internationally acclaimed dancer, choreographer and director leads this master class. Pico's practice assumes the body as a stage for emotion and memory, with the dancers primary role being the identification of personal connections to both the movement and the scenic materials at their disposal. Participants will be led through a theory of exercises used by Pico in the creation of new material.

Professional training workshop, max 12 participants

Wilson Pico is a choreographer, dancer, teacher and director who is widely considered by national and international critics the founder of contemporary Indigenous dance in Ecuador. Since 1970, he has created an important choreographic canon, with more than 180 works staged, and has presented his solo works throughout the Americas, Europe and Japan.

This workshop is presented as part of RUTAS, an International Multi-Arts Festival, running Oct 3 - 14, 2018. Presented by Aluna Theatre in partnership with Native Earth Performing Arts.

Wilson Pico, renombrado bailarín, coreógrafo y director internacional, dirige esta clase magistral. La práctica de Pico toma el cuerpo como un escenario para la emoción y la memoria, con el rol primario del bailarín el identificar las conexiones personales tanto con el movimiento y los materiales escénicos a su disposición. Los participantes serán guiados por una teoría de ejercicios utilizados por Pico en la creación de material nuevo.

Wilson Pico es coreógrafo, bailarín, maestro y director, ampliamente considerado por la crítica nacional e internacional como el fundador de la danza indígena contemporánea en Ecuador. Desde 1970, ha creado un canon coreográfico importante, con más de 180 piezas montadas, y ha presentado sus unipersonales en América, Europa y Japón.
