Dances of India's 41st Annual Performance
Come and experience Dances of India's 41st Annual Performance: The Forgotten Ramayana: The Tale of Urmila, the Sleeping Princess.
Based on a little-known story from the Hindu epic The Ramayana, this glittering production expands on the tale of the Princess Urmila, who sleeps for 14 years in order to keep her sister, the Princess Sita, Sita's husband, Prince Rama, and her own husband, Prince Lakshmana, safe from the dangers and demons of a forest.
This original production is completely narrated.
Patrick Suzeau, a French contemporary dancer will present a fusion of contemporary dance with Odissi, a style of classical Indian dance.
Dances of India company dancers will also perform traditional Bharata Natyam dances. A special piece incorporating Bharata Natyam and tap will also be presented.
Sunday's performance is a Children's Performance: the first half will be presented by younger/intermediate dancers, and the second half will feature the full production of The Forgotten Ramayana.
