Transfigured Light: Proverb
Arkora and Redshift Music team up to present Transfigured Light: Proverb, a concert pairing rarely performed Medieval and contemporary masterworks with world premieres exploring themes of death, regeneration, science and spirituality. The newly-commissioned works by Tova Kardonne, Fay Wang, Jonathan Wild, Noah Meites, and Benton Roark are composed for Arkora's "modern motet" ensemble, consisting of eight-voice chamber choir and an ensemble of electric guitar, violin, cello, keyboards, and percussion, featuring hand-built microtonal instruments. The evening culminates with a rare Vancouver performance of Steve Reich's Proverb for sopranos, tenors, vibraphones, and organs.
The first concert of this two-phase project, taking place in May 2017, was called "the standout event of Vancouver's spring music season" (Vancouver Observer). The next concert takes place at 7:30 PM on Thursday September 27, 2018 at Mountain View Cemetery's beautiful Celebration Hall.
